Geographic Information Systems Lab Manual – Edition 14 for fall 2024. Beginning August 2024, all prior editions are not compatible with the current edition.

This Texas Tech-approved lab manual is designed exclusively to accompany the Geographic Information Systems (GIST 3300/GIST5300) course at Texas Tech University. It is designed as an introductory course in Geographic Information Systems using ArcGIS Pro software. This lab manual consists of twelve hands-on labs including a 2-week map project and a  3-week final project.  These labs and exercises expose students to the fundamentals of GIS and explore a wide range of functionality and tools to teach students to become effective users of the technology.  While there are no formal prerequisites for the course, it is assumed that students have a working knowledge of the Microsoft Windows environment. Course data are provided on the TTU Blackboard site. The goal of this lab manual is to provide students with an overview of the capabilities of GIS technology and to prepare them for advanced course work.

Advanced Geographic Information Systems Lab Manual – Edition 6 for fall 2021. Beginning August 2021, all prior editions are not compatible with the fall 2021 edition.

This Texas Tech-approved lab manual is designed exclusively to accompany the Advanced Geographic Information Systems (GIST 4304/GIST5304) course at Texas Tech University.  It is designed as a second level course in Geographic Information Systems using ArcGIS Desktop software. This Lab Manual consists of twenty-four hands-on labs that expose students to advanced analysis tools and functionality using Esri GIS software. Course data are provided on the TTU class server. The goal of this lab manual is to provide students with an understanding of the GIS geodatabases with focus on data management and geodatabase design. The exercises prepare students to complete a final project that includes a professional geodatabase design using their own data.
