Description

This Texas Tech-approved lab manual accompanies the Geographic Information Systems (GIST 3300/GIST5300) course at Texas Tech University. The lab assignments are designed for an introductory course in Geographic Information Systems. Students are exposed to the fundamentals of GIS, and the labs explore a wide range of functionality and tools to teach students to become effective users of the technology. This manual contains twelve hands-on labs including a 2-week map project, and a 3-week final project. There are no formal prerequisites for the course. However, students should have a working knowledge of the Microsoft Windows environment and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel). The goal of this lab manual is to provide students with an overview of the capabilities of GIS technology and to prepare them for advanced course work.
